Galápagos Redefined Expeditions

Our Story

Born here. Shaped by the islands. Dedicated to sharing them.

The Galápagos do not reveal themselves to the hurried. They ask for time, for patience, and for someone who has spent a lifetime learning to read them.

Our origins

Two naturalists. One conviction.

For more than 35 years, Samuel Quiroz and Jhon Zavala have guided travelers through the Galápagos, season after season, island after island. Those years taught them a simple truth: a journey through these islands is only ever as good as the person who interprets it.

Galápagos Redefined is their answer: a company built on their own values, their knowledge and their standard of service, where the way the islands are explained matters as much as the comfort in which they are reached.

President & Founder · Galápagos Redefined High End

Samuel Quiroz

Naturalist Guide Level IIIEspañol · English

Born and raised on San Cristóbal Island in the Galápagos Archipelago, Samuel Quiroz has been connected to the natural world from the very beginning of his life. Growing up surrounded by extraordinary wildlife, pristine coastlines and the living landscapes of the Galápagos, he understood from an early age that this remarkable place carries not only a privilege, but a profound responsibility: to protect it, understand it, and share its knowledge with future generations.

A graduate in Biological Sciences and a marine biologist by profession, Samuel has dedicated more than three decades to the study, interpretation and conservation of the Galápagos. His work has taken him deep into the islands' terrestrial and marine ecosystems, where he has contributed to scientific and conservation initiatives involving biology, marine science, genetics, wildlife and environmental education.

For Samuel, the Galápagos has never been simply a destination. It has been his classroom, his laboratory, his encyclopedia, and his lifelong field of study.

From its volcanic landscapes to its extraordinary marine environments, he has developed an intimate knowledge of the archipelago and a particular connection with its coastlines and iconic sites, including Kicker Rock, one of the most remarkable marine formations in the Galápagos.

Over the years, Samuel has shared his knowledge with visitors, scientists and conservation-minded travelers from around the world. His philosophy is rooted in a simple conviction: the better we understand nature, the stronger our commitment becomes to protecting it.

As a science writer and author, Samuel has also transformed decades of field experience and scientific knowledge into an educational work dedicated to the wildlife of the Galápagos. His book brings together an extensive understanding of the archipelago's species, ecosystems and natural history, offering readers a deeper perspective on the living world they encounter throughout the islands.

Galápagos Redefined High End is the realization of a vision Samuel has carried throughout his life: to create a different kind of expedition, one in which luxury, discovery, science, conservation and education come together as one experience.

As President and Founder, Samuel personally leads the company's signature expeditions, sharing his knowledge of the islands and creating journeys designed to reveal the Galápagos beyond the conventional travel experience. His purpose is not simply to show guests the islands, but to help them understand what they are seeing, why it matters, and why it must be protected.

Every expedition is therefore conceived as an encounter with a living world: an opportunity to explore, learn, and develop a deeper connection with one of the planet's most extraordinary natural sanctuaries.

His mission is clear: to help the world discover the Galápagos, understand its extraordinary natural heritage, and become part of the responsibility to preserve it for generations to come.

A letter from Samuel Quiroz, President and Owner

LEÓN DORMIDO EXPEDITION

KICKER ROCK, AN INVITATION INTO THE WILD

Not everyone who visits the Galápagos truly experiences it.

Far beneath the Pacific surface of Kicker Rock (León Dormido), beyond the iconic landscapes above, lies a world of extraordinary marine encounters: hammerhead sharks moving through deep blue water, sea turtles gliding effortlessly, rays, sea lions, and an extraordinary concentration of marine life.

This is where knowledge, experience, and timing become part of the journey.

For years, I have devoted myself to Kicker Rock. I know its waters, its wildlife, and the extraordinary details that can turn a visit into something profoundly memorable.

I invite you to experience it with me.

I am Samuel Quiroz, President and Owner of Galápagos Redefined High End.

For discerning travelers, this is not simply another excursion. It is a privately curated encounter with one of the planet's remarkable marine environments, guided by someone who genuinely knows and loves this place.

And if your journey allows, experience Kicker Rock more than once. The ocean changes. The currents change. The wildlife changes. No two encounters are ever the same.

What we stand for

Our values.

Six principles, held since long before Galápagos Redefined had a name.

01Conservation
Every outing should leave the islands as it found them, and its guests more determined to protect them. Understanding is where protection begins.
02Knowledge
Biology, geology, evolution and human history, shared with rigor. We explain why an animal is there, not only where to look.
03Transmission
What we know is meant to be passed on: to our guests, to their children, to the islanders who will guide after us. It is why Samuel wrote his book.
04Authenticity
No script and no staged encounter. The Galápagos as those who were born here know them, season after season.
05Intimacy
Few guests, unhurried landings, and a team you know by name from your first message to your return home.
06Rooted in the islands
A company founded by Galápagos naturalists, so that the value these islands create stays with the people who protect them.

Our Own Vessel

We don't charter a boat. We own one.

Sofía Girl I is our own dive and tour vessel, not a seat rented from another operator. It's the clearest proof of what "direct operator" actually means: we answer for the boat, the crew and the schedule ourselves.

The Galápagos, told from within.

A Galápagos Naturalist Point of View

For nearly two centuries, the story of the Galápagos has been written by visitors, from Charles Darwin to the European and American naturalists who followed him. Samuel's book is different: it is the only book on the islands written by a naturalist born and raised in the archipelago itself.

Every guest who books directly with us receives it as a gift. It is the first step of a far larger project: sharing Galápagos knowledge from the inside, so that everyone who encounters these islands leaves understanding why they must be preserved.

To know is to care. To care is to protect.
